This bobblehead, like every other bobblehead the Dodgers have given away this year, looks amazing. It looks like Vinny. The scorecard and book on the desk are a great touch and the microphone in his hand is the cherry on top. Great job!

In all my year of collecting bobbleheads, the upcoming Vin Scully bobblehead is the one I've been the most excited about. I think most Dodger fans and bobblehead collectors can say the same thing. Today the Dodgers gave us a little tease by announcing that the picture of the Vinny bobblehead will be unveiled tomorrow. From the Dodgers Facebook page:

I cannot wait for tomorrow. It's obviously him behind a desk and I think there's a microphone there. Any other guesses?

Dee Gordon Update Plus Two New Autos

Before the baseball season began, I had high hopes for Dodgers lead-off hitter Dee Gordon. There was a lot of hype around the kid, and I was one of the people hyping him up. As long as he got on base, he could steal 60, 70 maybe 80 bases and score a hundred runs with Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier hitting behind him. Things haven't gone that way though. Through May 18, Dee was batting .200 with a .239 OBP, so manager Don Mattingly benched him. I honestly thought Dee was headed back to the minors to work on his game, but he was back in the starting line-up four days later, this time batting eighth.

Since being moved to the bottom of the order, Dee has hit in five straight, going 8 for 18 and raising his batting average to .229 and his OBP to .270. He also added two stolen bases today, his first in more than three weeks. Not exactly great numbers, but he's improving.

I think moving Dee to the bottom of the order was the right thing for Mattingly to do, a move that probably should have been made sooner. It's like having another lead-off hitter at the bottom of the order. Batting in front of the pitcher will help Dee get on base more and help build his confidence.

I still see flaws with Dee's approach at the plate though. He's still hacking away too much. I would like to see more attempts at bunting for hits, more slapping at the ball and more patience at the plate. Things are getting better though. I guess getting benched was a wake up call.

Onto the cards. I'm still collecting Dee, so when I get trade offers on cards I don't have, I get pretty excited. This trade came from Kevin through the Facebook page 'Sports Cards & Entertainment'. Here's what I got:

2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition /100. I've got another one of these with a red border numbered to 310, but I love this one much more because it's got the beautiful Dodger blue border.

2011 Bowman Sterling /25. I have the base version of this auto as well, which I'll post another time. I think the black border on this is gorgeous.

These two bring my Dee Gordon auto count up to 17.

Dodger Fan Fest 2012

This past Sunday, the Dodgers held their very first Fan Fest at Dodger Stadium. It's something Dodger fans have wanted for years. Well we finally got what we wanted, a full day of Dodger madness. There were about 45 former and current players scheduled to sign autographs, there were games for the kids, a wine tasting tent and a mini Dodger museum in the main tent, which was full of memorabilia.

Before I got there, I thought this would be unorganized like every other Dodger event. As soon as I walked into Dodger Stadium I found out I was right. Getting into the event area was a bit of a pain in the ass, but once inside, we discovered that there were four lines to choose from and the players in them were random. You basically had to wait and hope you get someone you wanted. Things were easy at first because of the players that were signing early, but as the day progressed, the lines got very long and the weather got hot and as usual, the whole thing turned chaotic because people were standing around waiting.

My goal for the day was to get Andre Ethier, Tommy Lasorda, Fernando Valezuela , Dee Gordon and Bill Russell all on their own baseballs. I didn't even come close to meeting that goal, only getting Gordon on ball. I did get to meet Tommy at the wine tasting tent, so it wasn't all bad.

Here's how I feel about the Fan Fest. This was basically La Gran Fiesta with another name and a few more players. I think this could've been better organized, giving everyone a chance to meet some of the bigger names. It was all too random and that's not fair to everyone. The other thing was the heat. It's too damn hot outside in the stadium parking lot. They need to hold the event in the convention center, let people pay to get in, and have them get tickets for the players they want. Also, it's time for some different veteran Dodgers to make an appearance. I love all former Dodgers, but honestly, how many times can they schlep the same old timers out there?

Orel Hershiser Bobblehead Night

We're already five days removed from the Orel Hershiser bobblehead night, so before any more time goes by, let's get to the Bulldog.

On Tuesday, May 15, the Dodgers gave away Orel Hershiser bobbleheads. Presented by Coca-Cola, this bobblehead was scheduled to be given to the first 50,000 fans in attendance. The stadium was pretty empty that night, and I highly doubt there were 50,000 people. Not really sure why there were so few people, but I would assume it's because the Lakers were playing or maybe it's hard for a lot of the newer fans to care about a Dodger hero from 24 years ago. Who knows? All I know is I was happy to get my hands on this one.

What really stands out on this bobblehead is the look on Orel's face. That's the classic Bulldog stare. I think this could be one of the best Dodger bobbles ever. It's definitely in my top five. They did such a good job on this one, even Vin Scully commented a few times on how good this looked.

Player Appearance: Steve Garvey

Dodger legend Steve Garvey made an appearance today at the Walmart in Porter Ranch from 3:30 to 4:30. This event, which was sponsored by Topps, flew under the radar. I hadn't heard anything about it until late last night when Topps posted it on their Facebook page.

The Walmart in Porter Ranch is just a few minutes from my office, so Tom and I went down there on our lunch break. When we arrived at 3:00 there were only a few people there. We saw Garvey and some Topps reps talking so we figured the signing would start on time.

At exactly 3:30 Garv sat down and started signing. There were only about 15 people there at the time, so we chit-chatted with him a little and got multiple autographs. I got four pictures signed, including two different 8x10's that Topps provided. I saw one lady there get at least ten things signed. It was one of the easiest autograph I've ever gotten.

Thanks to Steve Garvey, Toppps and the Porter Ranch Walmart for hosting such a smooth event. It's nice having a Dodger signing in the San Fernando Valley, sometimes I feel like we're the forgotten fans. Big shoutout to Larry, Big Mike and Derek! Nice seeing you guys today.

Another Bison From The Snorting Bull

I've got some catching up to do on recent trades. Since Matt Kemp just won NL Player of the Month, I'll post my post my latest Bison pickup.

One of my favorite new trading partners is Eric from the Snorting Bull. We just completed our third trade, once again a Matt Kemp card was involved. Eric collects Cardinals and Rays, so I sent him a 2012 Topps Bob Gibson patch, a 2010 Topps T206 Sean Rodriguez auto, a 2011 Topps Matt Joyce All Star jersey, a 2011 Allen & Ginter Carlos Pena jersey and a 2011 Topps Tier One Matt Holiday. In return Eric sent over this awesome 2010 Allen & Ginter Matt Kemp auto. Like every other Dodger collector, I'm trying to get my hands on as many Matt Kemp cards as possible.

Oh, Eric threw another card into the deal. Once again, he helped me add a new Dodger auto to my collection. Last time it was Eric Karros, this time it's one of my favorite lunatics of all time, Milton Bradley. This is a 2005 Donruss Significant Signatures /100.

Don Drysdale/Maury Wills Dual Bobblehead Night

Things didn't start off so great for me last night. When I left home for Dodger Stadium, I was so excited about getting the first bobblehead of the year. But my excitement soon turned into aggravation once I got onto the 5 freeway. It took over two hours to get from home to the game, and I'm only 20 miles away. So when I finally got to my seat, I just wanted to eat a Dodger Dog, drink a cold beer, look at my new bobblehead and enjoy the game.

What a game, huh? The first bobblehead of the year. Bryce Harper's MLB debut. A pitcher's dual between Chad Billingsley and Stephen Strasburg. A comeback win by the Dodgers that ended with a Matt Kemp walk-off homerun! There was definitely a playoff atmosphere.

On to the bobblehead. Don Drysdale, who won the Cy Young Award in 1962 and Maury Wills, who won the National League MVP that same year, were honored with a dual bobblehead. When the box was first handed to me, I was shocked to see the size of it. I knew it was mini bobblehead, but it still seemed pretty small. Once I opened it though, I liked what I saw. Starting with the gold base to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dodger Stadium. The rest of the paint job is fantastic as well, from the uniform colors to the skin tone, everything is right. The facial features are OK, but I'll give them credit for getting them so close on such a small bobble. The plaques on the grass are a nice touch too. My only complaint besides the size of the dual bobblehead is the bat Maury Wills is holding. It doesn't screw in. For now it seems like it's nice and snug in his hands, but I'll have to keep my eye on it.

The Dodgers released pictures of one more bobblehead today. This time it's the fourth bobblehead of 2012, former catcher Mike Scioscia. Presented by State Farm, the Dodgers will be giving away Mike Scioscia bobbleheads to the first 50,000 fans in attendance on Tuesday, June 12, when they play the Angels. Of course, Scioscia is the manager of the Angels, so he will be on hand on his bobblehead night.

We get two views of this bobblehead today, one from the front and another slightly facing to the side. I think this one looks fantastic, just like the first three.

2012 Angels FanFest

The Anaheim Angels held their FanFest this past Sunday. The event was scheduled to start at 7:00 am, so I headed out to OC with Tom nice and early. We got to the Big A right before the event gates opened and there was already a line of about 100 people or so. First thing we did was hit the autograph lines. There were five to choose from, and we had no idea who was signing. I got in one line and Tom stood in another just in case mine had a crappy player.

When I got in line I just happened to be standing behind Ryan from RBI Collecting. It was nice to have someone to chat with because the players weren't scheduled to sign until 9:45. And we were told that those players would not be any of the starters. We were all a little bummed, but there was still a good chance for some decent signers.

Well, 9:45 came and the players started walking to their tables.Each table had two players. Table one had Jordan Walden and Scott Downs, table two had Chris Ianetta and Vernon Wells, table three hadErick Aybar and Maicer Izturis, table four had Bobby Abreu and LaTroy Hawkins and the fifth table had Kendrys Morales and Alberto Callaspo. I was in line for Bobby Abreu and LaTroy Hawkins and Tom had Kendrys Morales and Alberto Callaspo. I had a tough choice to make because I wanted Abreu and Morales. I decided to stay where I was and get Bobby. Abreu signed a ball for me and I got LaTroy on my Snoopy bobblehead.

After I got Abreu and Hawkins, I had time for one more line, so I got into the Erick Aybar/Maicer Izturis line. Aybar, who had just signed a well deserved four-year contract extension a few days earlier, signed a ball for me and Izzy signed my Snoopy bobblehead.

After the current players were done signing, it was time for some former Angels. While we were waiting, Mark Gubicza was roaming around and chatting with fans and signing autographs.. I already had him on a ball, so this time I got him on a card. Garrett Anderson, Chuck Finley, Jim Abbott, Mike Witt and Clyde Wright just finished a Q&A on the stage then came to the tables to sign. I was able to get Jim Abbott and Chuck Finley on cards.

Overall I think I did alright. I wish some of the bigger names signed, but this wasn't too bad. I also think the whole thing was a bit unorganized. They really need to come up with a better method of getting people to the different stations. I would have loved to have gotten autos from all the players there. One more thing, I wanna give a big shoutout to Dave from David's Autograph Signings. Thanks for all your help Dave!

The Jaime Jarrin Bobblehead

Like a lot of Dodger fans, I was surprised the team didn't honor Hall of Fame broadcaster Jaime Jarrin with a bobblehead for the 50th anniversary of Dodger Stadium. Jarrin has been a huge part of the team's history and seriously deserves a bobble, just like Vin Scully.

Well, they may not be giving one away at Dodger Stadium in 2012, but there is a Jarrin bobblehead out there. Earlier this week, fellow bobble collector Gabriel made me aware of one on Ebay. When I first saw it, I was pretty excited and decided I was going to bid on it. I placed seven bids on it myself, when it finally got out of my price range. The bobblehead sold for almost $150. Some lucky Dodger bobble collector out there is now the proud owner of what could be the only Jaime Jarrin bobblehead. Plus, it's autographed!

I don't know much about the bobblehead except what was in the description. It was made for Los Defensores, an LA-based law firm that uses Jarrin in their commercials. It looks like it may be made by PSquared, the company that makes the Dodgers' bobbleheads, but I could be wrong. If anyone has any information on this, please email me or comment below.

Bobblehead Of The Day: Albert Pujols

So my first bobblehead pickup of the year was down in Anaheim. The Angels gave away Albert Pujols bobbleheads to all fans in attendance at Tuesday's game against the Athletics.

Every time I go to an Angels game, I feel like I'm going on an undercover assignment. I dunno, it just feels weird. I tell myself, if I want the bobble, I've gotta make the drive to OC and sit in the sea of red. Now, I'm not gonna rag on Angel fans, but being at an Angel game is about as fun as being at a funeral. Everyone is sitting on their hands. There's no chanting for their team. There's no clapping. There's no excitement whatsoever. It's just plain dull. Kinda like the bobblehead you're about to see.

This Albert Pujols bobblehead is about as mediocre as mediocre gets. It's him in the standard homerun pose. Red jersey, red helmet and him on a red base. Plain and simple. To top it all off, it looks nothing like Pujols. Kloanz missed the mark on this one. But in the end, Albert Pujols is one of the greatest players ever, so I don't mind adding this to my collection.

Another Look At The Infield Bobblehead

Just one day after releasing an official picture of the upcoming Orel Hershiser bobblehead, the Dodgers are showing us a nice hi-res pic of the Infield bobblehead, featuing 1B Steve Garvey, 2B Davey Lopes, SS Bill Russell and 3B Ron Cey. I showed a low-res pic of this bobblehead last week, but now that I have better look, I think they've done an amazing job on this one too! From Garvey's wristband to Davey Lopes' afro to Bill Russells boyish looks and Ron Cey's mustache, everything looks right. Like I've said before, these bobbleheads are getting better and better every year.

Presented by State Farm, the Dodgers will be giving away the Infield bobblehead to the first 50,000 fans in attendance on Tuesday, May 29 when they play the Brewers.

The Orel Hershiser bobblehead finally gets an official pic from the Dodgers. And it looks just like the Bulldog. Check out that stare! The NL Cy Young Award plaque is a nice touch as well.

Presented by Coca-Cola, this bobblehead will be given away to the first 50,000 fans in attendance on Tuesday, May 15, when the Dodgers play the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bobblehead Of The Day: 2012 Matt Kemp Forever Collectibles

Congratulations to Matt Kemp for winning his third consecutive National League Player of the Week Award today. Matt won it in the last week of the 2011 season and in the first two weeks of the 2012 season, becoming the first player ever to win it three weeks in a row since MLB began giving it out in 1974. Last week the Bison batted .545, hit hour homeruns, had a 1.182 slugging percentage, .615 on-base percentage, scored seven runs, had 12 hits and 8 RBI. Beast Mode is in full-effect! So, in honor of Matty's latest accomplishment, I'm gonna show his newest bobblehead.

Last month, Forever Collectibles released two new Dodger bobbleheads, Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw. Today we'll take a look at the Kemp. This bobble is 8 inches tall and sits upon a blue LA Dodgers base. Matt is in a very simple pose, holding a screw-in bat over his shoulder. I think the features are pretty accurate, although the skin tone is a little light and the beard is is painted on poorly. Overall I think this is a very nice bobblehead. My favorite part has to be the helmet. It's very shiny and looks like a brand new MLB batting helmet. Under the base, each bobble is hand numbered to 2012. Mine is 34 of 2012.
